15th Century Italian Slate table

We were commissioned to undertake the restoration of a 15th century Italian slate table that had been damaged.

The corner of the table was badly damaged, and a section of the table was missing. One of the difficulties we encountered during its restoration, was the removal of the metal frame now supporting the slab as a table. Originally, this fine piece of 15th century history would have been placed into the floor of a villa.

You can see the table before and after the slate repairs.

Due to the structure of the slate there were many layers to cut through, including hardness differences and gaps.

You can see a photograph of the repair after the marbling and artwork has been restored.

Here, you can see a photograph of the entire table after restoration. The missing artwork has now been restored.

All work which went into the restoration of this piece was carried out using materials and pigments of the time.

Fine Regency Stool circa 1790

This regency stool came to us in a rather poor condition. It had been repaired once before using brass within the mahogany to strengthen it. This hadn't worked, resulting in the replacement of the affected side. The work on this piece was undertaken using mahogany contemporary to the period.
