French ormolu clock restoration

Below you can see an Antique French clock which came in for repair.

French ormolu clock prior to restoration

This clock has missing parts including one wing from the cherub and two wings from the butterfly at the front. These parts have to be made using the lost wax principle which are then added to the clock. Then the clock is gilded.

Below you can see the two wings which have been remade and fitted to the butterfly. The clock has been gilded in 24 carat gold.

These French clocks often have items such as the dial and side panels which are painted and enamelled. These parts are very often broken. We repair these in such a way as that one would never ever know they have been broken.

In the pictures below you can see a broken enamelled panel. In the second picture you can see the repaired enamel panel inserted into the gilded clock.
